The Taste of Trust by Sheila Hall

I wake in a tangle of silken sheets
with the soft rays of morning streaming
through the window.
Dreams hold on with stubborn fingers
refusing to dissipate like the fading starlight.

Wishes of times unrealized.
Hopes for bonds uncompleted.

Unprepared for the realities
brought on by the sun, a tear
slowly trails down and pools at the
corner of my mouth.

The taste of truth.
